Following on from my Christmas video I put out, I want to dive into one of the many other aspects of the illusionary world and this is the illusion of time. It is a simple concept to understand but has a very significant place within the illusionary world we are perceiving, reacting and living in.

Obviously, some of you have heard this concept before, so please stay and explore a little deeper with me to see how it may be affecting us in our daily lives and maybe spend a little time pondering the greater meaning.

So, let’s start off nice and simple:

Past                                   NOW                             Future

o   The past is considered to be everything that has ever gone on previously, since and before the “big bang” or “creation”.

o   The future is considered to be everything that might potentially happen in the eternal approaching events and experiences.

o   The now is where everything exists, where everything is perceived and where everything that ever happens is experienced.

You cannot do Taiji in the future you can only do Taiji in the now, and that is the same for the past, you cannot go back to yesterday to do some Taiji practice. Everything is now and only now, everything that is and everything that occurs, occurs now, as nothing can occur in the future nor in the past. This is easy enough to understand, so using this framework means that the future and the past are clearly nothing more than mental constructs from within the now.

So, if everything that exists is in the now moment, we could ask what actually is the now moment where all our events and experiences take place. It is all just energy, you are just energy and all the energy that has ever existed is happening right now. Science says that everything is energy and energy cannot be created nor destroyed and is in continuous perpetual motion, a perpetual state of change. So, what actually happens, energy transforms and is constantly transforming in the now moment. This means that the entire energy of the universe never goes anywhere, it only transforms and never stops, and it is this everlasting transformation within the now that gives the perceived illusion of time.

The mental construct of which is the past does not actually exist other than within our memory, which often produces harmful and destructive emotions such as shame, guilt, sorrow etc which were not formed in the past but formed within the maya of memory which is suffered in the now. The same goes for the future, yet they have different emotions attached to them like anxiety and worry all fear-based emotions which also do not exist in the future and are only agonised in the now.

So, what does this mean for us and our fellow humans. All of our mental suffering is due to our mental constructs that don’t actually exist. They are just mental projections and constructs that are in our own minds, which in one way is fantastic, because when realised (real-eyes) it, it is ours to change.

The chemical secretions that happen within the body are due to the neurological responses to our emotions. There is not one chemical which is released from a glandular system that is not first instructed to do so by our nervous system. The nervous system(s) is responding exactly to its environment it is put in and a major consideration to that environment is our thoughts, projections and mental constructs of which as explained earlier do not exist in the way we first might of thought. We are suffering our memory and projections.

To be really present in its purest form of now dissolves all past and future mental constructs and projections as they do not exist, they cannot exist in the purest awareness of now, and should be the state of being whilst practising Taiji.

Where we place our awareness is what we perceive life to be, Taiji practice unequivocally shows us this. If our past and mental conditioning has not been a pleasant one this will mirror our current perceived reality and project onto our potential future which affects the regulation of our nervous system which is controlling all our chemical secretions.

Our nervous system is constantly adjusting our chemical system to keep us in the correct state of being for our apparent immediate environment. If our immediate environment is ‘perceived’ to be a threating one whether it is actually true or not it will activate the fight, flight, freeze response by releasing more chemicals and blocking (in many cases) others, which is exactly what should happen to keep us on full heighten alert and have the energy reserves to fight if needed.

There is nothing wrong with our nervous system and bodies, it is reacting perfectly to its perceived ‘mental’ environment it is put in whether it is consciously or unconsciously done and often due to the mis-interpretation of the many maya’s of which time-pasted and time-future is one.

The many illusions of the world are there for us to get lost in so we do not recognise the true reality and to confuse us as it all ‘seems’ so real (ref Christmas video) to what and who we truly are. The illusions has to be there like separation and duality or this experience as we know it cannot exist. The identity, our egoic-self needs the illusions so we can have a specific experience.

One may ask from this, why am I here?

We are all individual aspects (God sparks) of consciousness that has never been before (regarding the individual egoic identity). We are all co-creating the universe in the now that just could not have possibly been until our arrival in it. Our presence, our existence is a fragmentation of the whole manifesting in this very now moment.

(quote from Mike Faff with slight edit by me)

When this is recognised, the maya of time no longer exists, you have broken the spell of the illusion, you have awakened, this is where you discover the true self within the illusion and different type of experience can now play out.

Just what magnificence this illusionary experience is!
